Lt. Col. James Robert Hildreth arrived in Pleiku, South Vietnam in March 1967. A career Air Force officer trained to fly combat missions, he was anxious to get into the fight before the war ended. So he took the first available assignment, flying an A-1E Skyraider.. » read more

Who Cares Enough To Tell The Truth?

Soldiers and veterans - who cares enough to tell the truth?  How easy to kill (remorse comes later...for some) but how difficult to stand up for the truth to really save your country.  The military breaks manhood -- those who go into battle are submissives,  slaves  --  watching their best buddies destroyed yet they keep their mouths shut -- and then go home and blow their own brains out.. » read more

Punished for suffering from PTSD

IRAQ WAR veteran Eric Jasinski, after seeking treatment for his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), is being punished by the Army. Jasinski turned himself in to the Army late last year, after having gone absent without leave (AWOL) in order to seek help for his PTSD--help, he told Truthout, that he was not receiving from the Army, even after requesting assistance on multiple occasions. He was court-martialed and jailed for 25 days for having gone AWOL, during which time he was escorted in shackles to therapy sessions for his PTSD. After being released from prison, he was informed that he would be given an other-than-honorable discharge, which means he is likely ineligible for full PTSD treatment from Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) after he leaves the service. Jasinski enlisted in the military in 2005 and deployed to Iraq in October 2006 as an intelligence analyst with the U.. » read more

When Empires Join Hands: Japanese Military Joins U.S. And NATO In Horn Of Africa

Japanese navy commander Keizo Kitagawa recently spoke with Agence France-Presse and disclosed that his nation was opening its first overseas military base – at any rate since the Second World War – in Djibouti in the Horn of Africa. Kitagawa is assigned to the Plans and Policy Section of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, as his nation’s navy is called, and is in charge of the deployment. AFP quoted the Japanese officer as stressing the unprecedented nature of the development: “This will be the only Japanese base outside our country and the first in Africa.” [1] The military installation is to cost $40 million and is expected to accommodate Japanese troops early next year. Djibouti rests at the confluence of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, across from strife-torn Yemen, and borders the northwest corner of equally conflict-ridden Somalia.. » read more

Alert: Pakistan, Iran set to face hot July

—JULY 2010 appears to be a crucial month in American plan —After July 2010, the components would be in place to start a proper war against Iran and do an amputation surgery on Pakistan —A network of Patriot Defence System (PAC-3) has been established in UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia —These systems are centrally linked to the control centre in Israel —At least four upgraded Ticonderoga class cruisers, equipped with Aegis ballistic missile defence system, will be stationed in the Gulf region by July 2010 —July 2010 is also the month when the Tenth Fleet of the US Navy would be re-established —At least five aircraft carriers of the US Navy would either be stationed or be able to reach the Gulf region at short notice by July 2010 —It is necessary to underline that JSOC operates outside the US military chain of command Several things happened since the publication of the second report in this series about a couple of week ago: Karzai finally broke down under tremendous American pressure; after a gap of six years terrorism resurfaced in Russian at a time and in areas most convenient for American interests; the government in Kyrgyzstan collapsed with a helpful push from Russia; Ban Ki-moon toured Central Asia, and the lecturing tone of his talks in each country and the composition of his delegation raised eyebrows in the region; and there is an unprecedented push to impose more sanctions on Iran. All of these developments are related to our current series of investigative reports in one way or the other. The accelerated pace of events in the Eurasian region has forced us to hasten with the remaining material. This series – ‘Final Solution’ Frenzy – was supposed to unfold in about twelve reports but now we have decided to cram the remaining information into three or four reports. This would rush the things and make if difficult to provide an easily understandable narrative.. » read more

Mercenaries circling Haiti

A Haiti conference was held in Miami last month for private military and security companies to showcase their services to governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the earthquake devastated country of Haiti. On their website for the Haiti conference, the trade group IPOA (ironically called the International Peace Operations Association until recently) lists 11 companies advertising security services explicitly for Haiti. Even though guns are illegal to buy or sell in Haiti, many companies brag of their heavy duty military experience. Triple Canopy, a private military company with extensive security operations in Iraq and Israel, is advertising for business in Haiti. According to human rights activist and investigative reporter Jeremy Scahill, Triple Canopy took over the Xe/Blackwater security contract in Iraq in 2009.. » read more

Pentagon Continues to Use "Personality Disorder" Discharges to Cheat Veterans out of Benefits

An army sergeant who had received 22 honors including a Combat Action Badge prior to being wounded in Iraq by a mortar shell was told he was faking his medical symptoms and subjected to abusive treatment until he agreed to a "personality disorder"(PD) discharge. After a doctor with the First Cavalry division wrote he was out for "secondary gain," Chuck Luther was imprisoned in a six- by eight-foot  isolation chamber, ridiculed by the guards, denied regular meals and showers and kept awake by perpetual lights and blasting heavy metal music---abuses similar to the punishments inflicted on terrorist suspects by the CIA.  "They told me I wasn't a real soldier, that I was a piece of crap. All I wanted was to be treated for my injuries," 12-year veteran Luther told reporter Joshua Kors of "The Nation" magazine (April 26th). "Now suddenly I'm not a soldier.. » read more

National Guard recruiters forged re-enlistment papers: report (with video)

Washington State National Guard recruiters repeatedly forged re-enlistment papers in a desperate attempt to hold on to soldiers in the run-up to the Iraq war surge, a local news channel's investigation has found. In one case, a soldier found himself fighting against deployment to Iraq after re-enlistment papers with his signature on it appeared -- even though he never signed any such papers, reports Chris Ingalls at KING channel 5 news in Seattle. And in another case, a sergeant who had signed up for a one-year tour of duty was shocked to discover his enlistment papers stated he had signed up for two years. Former soldier Michael Patrick sounded the alarm when he discovered forged re-enlistment papers with his name on them. "Sounds crazy," Michael Patrick told KING 5.. » read more
