BP is burning rare sea turtles alive, blocking efforts to save them
(NaturalNews) By now, almost everyone is aware of the out-of-control oil spill down in the Gulf of Mexico that seems to be getting exponentially worse with each passing day. But what people may not know is that BP's efforts to control the oil by burning it are actually burning alive a certain rare and endangered species of sea turtle. For several weeks now, rescue crews have been feverishly trying to save Kemp's Ridleys sea turtles, as well as four other endangered varieties, from being caught in the oil corral areas that are being intentionally burned by BP, but according to Mike Ellis, one of the boat captains involved in the project, BP has now blocked all such rescue efforts from taking place. "They ran us out of there and then they shut us down, they would not let us get back in there," he explained in an interview with Catherine Craig, a conservation biologist. New Photos: Suffering Dolphins in Barataria Bay
Jerry Moran Dorsal Fin Encrusted with Oil in Barataria Bay Toxic poisons are stalking the dolphins in Barataria Bay, Louisiana, and no one is discussing or reporting the fact that the oiled mammals are struggling in the waters near Grand Terre Island. There are no published photos or videos that we have been able to find, and no stories that describe the oil-encrusted dorsal fins and odd behavior that suggest an under-reported or deliberately hidden environmental catastrophe. We were on the water with New Orleans photographer Jerry Moran and Reel Screamers Guide Service on June 11, when we noticed two groups of dolphins. One group was swimming through a bubbling slick consisting of the dispersant COREXIT and oil, and the other was in the shallows and rooting in the mud. Dolphins will dig for flounder on the bottom, so it did not seem remarkable at the time, but we did note that they appeared unusually agitated.. » read more

Adopt a Calico Mustang. Must Act by June 15th.
Adopting a Calico Mustang may be One Thing You Can Do to Help Cross-posted from Equine Advocacy Examiner Written by MAUREEN HARMONAY Calico Mare and Foal at Fallon. Image copyright Cat Kindsfather. While efforts to secure the return of the Calico mustangs to their rightful ranges have been unsuccessful to-date, it is still possible to protect the safety of individual horses before they are dispersed to faraway states where they will face lifelong confinement or uncertain fates. To adopt one of the Calico Mountain mustangs seems to be the best that anyone can do for them now. It is with this in mind that photographer and wild horse advocate Cat Kindsfather has made it her personal crusade to document as many of the horses at the BLM’s Fallon, Nevada feedlot as she can, hoping to make their faces and personalities better known to prospective adopters.. » read more

Mobile phones responsible for disappearance of honey bee
The growing use of mobile telephones is behind the disappearance of honey bees and the collapse of their hives, scientists have claimed. Britain has seen a 15 per cent decline in its bee population in the last two years Photo: ALAMY Honey bee, (Apis mellifera mellifera), flying and collecting pollen from pussy willow, Germany, Bavaria Photo: ALAMY Their disappearance has caused alarm throughout Europe and North America where campaigners have blamed agricultural pesticides, climate change and the advent of genetically modified crops for what is now known as 'colony collapse disorder.' Britain has seen a 15 per cent decline in its bee population in the last two years and shrinking numbers has led to a rise in thefts of hives. Now researchers from Chandigarh's Punjab University claim they have found the cause which could be the first step in reversing the decline: They have established that radiation from mobile telephones is a key factor in the phenomenon and say that it probably interfering with the bee's navigation senses. They set up a controlled experiment in Punjab earlier this year comparing the behaviour and productivity of bees in two hives – one fitted with two mobile telephones which were powered on for two fifteen minute sessions per day for three months.. » read more
